Kress and others (e.g. Heath, 2000; Beame, 2003) state that 'the screen' and multimodal texts have developed new literacies. Written text is only one part of the message, and no longer the dominant part (Walsh, 2006). A good design of magazine publication provides both text and image in the presentation of publication. “Readers do not read only the printed word on a page; they also ‘read’ the visual presentation of the text” (Reep. D. C, 2006).
“The principles of design are qualities important to any visual presentation regardless of topic or audience. Experienced designers use the principles of design to create the "look" they want for a document. (Reep. D. C, 2006)” The design of this magazine publication is good. The combination of the colours is simple but fashionable, it constructs a really cool and music theme for the whole layout. The image, heading, sub-heading and the text columns are well distributed in both double pages, readers can easily spot it and get their interest to read it. Also, there are pull quotes on both of the pages, it can give readers a brief abstract to know more about the article. Therefore, this double page spread layout can be entirely classified as an effective magazine design.
